Equine Assisted Learning
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is a therapeutic, educational experience that involves spending time with horses to promote self-awareness and emotional regulation. Horses can feel our emotions and they provide constant and immediate feedback which allows them to remain present and aware of themselves and their environment, this in turn enhances the learning experience and promotes personal growth.
Empathy and trust plays a crucial role in the relationship between participant and horse, therefore a participant’s social and emotional skills can be improved by spending time with a member of our herd during session. These sessions run for 60 mins and are tailored to the needs of the individual, based on their capabilities, knowledge, age and goals identified.
The program offered at Healing with Horses can help participants become aware of and understand negative emotions such as anger, anxiety and depression. These sessions are facilitated by Jodie, a trained and certified EAL Professional. Session structure will vary depending on the participants personal goals and needs.
What can I expect from my EAL experience delivered by Healing with Horses?

Awareness of safety is maintained and discussed before and during the learning sessions, however you are required to sign an indemnity form

Say “Hi” To Our Horses
-
Lucy
Lucy is a 7 year old Shetland Pony. She likes lots of pats, hanging out with her friends, and she especially likes the company of little humans. Lucy may be small in stature but don’t be fooled, she is enormous in personality.
-
Cupcake
Cupcake is the old lady of the herd. She is a 22 year old Shetland pony. Cupcake likes soft pats, back scratches and taking it easy.
-
Gus
Gus is a 12 year old Quarter horse. His favorite things are potato chips and BBQ shapes, cuddles, and being as close to humans as he can get at all times. If Gus hears the gate open and thinks you have a salty snack with you, he will come running.
-
Whiskey
Whiskey is a 17 year old Persian Horse. He likes head massages, splashing in water and following Gus everywhere. Whiskey is a big boy but as soft as butter, he really likes hanging out with children and giving them a piggyback.
-
Spencer
Spencer is a 17 year old Arabian Riding Pony. He likes to follow the bigger horses around, jump over poles, and he also likes to boss Cupcake around. If you give Spencer a rub in the right spot on his cute little face he will close his eyes and go to sleep.
